readers,
if my blog were an e-mail this is how it would look
i don’t capitalize or use punctuation
i simply start a new line for each new thought
i adopted this style to deal with 100+ e-mails each day
when writing a formal memo i capitalize and use punctuation
but 95 percent of my e-mail responses are in this style
my wife hates it and feels it is unprofessional
no one else has every complained
let me know what you think
ralph t
p.s.
i always sign "ralph t"
she doesn't understand that either
i worked with a ralph h for about 10 years and adopted the moniker
ralph h left about five years ago, but i continue
i've asked my wife to sign "mary t" so i know who she is

Usually I agree with you on much, but not this time. I think professional communications in the work place are important. Otherwise, frankly, it looks like laziness. But I am also afraid it is a losing battle. There seems to be a whole new language being invented by the young, adopted by the not-so-young, as the result of testing and IM. That is definitely carrying into the workplace.
p.s. there are so many Daves in the world, I have the same habit of including my last initial. Nothing wrong with that.
I've got to agree with the wife on this one.
It is unprofessional and impolite to use improper capitalization or punctuation. All workplace communcation should be proper, but also personal communication, too. If I receive an email--professional or personal--and it lacks proper style, I am mildly insulted since it would seem the person doesn't have enough time, courtesy, or respect toward me.

Thanks for posting that you agree with my wife twice. She continues to feel that the blog watchers are too nice to me.
I appreciate the feedback and am going to change my e-mail style.
