An interesting forum discussion has started on today’s front page story on using a city-owned billboard to raise revenue for the Meriden Humane Society. Just click on the Forum icon and then “Today’s Posts” and you will find the complete story and forum discussion. In the article, it is clear that not everyone at City Hall wants to give all the money to the Humane Society. On the forum, there are also differing opinions. I’d vote to give most or all the money to the society for now. The reality is if it is going to remain a no kill shelter it is going to need a steady revenue stream to pay its bills.
The location of the billboard is also an issue. There is billboard not far from the Humane Society property along I-91 that advertises an adult video store in Hartford. If Meriden residents have to live with that billboard, why not another that raises revenue for the city. One suggestion, City Hall may want to look into its ability to regulate the types of businesses that advertise on its billboard. I’m not sure another one promoting an adult video store would work. Let me know what you think.

MONEY SHOULD GO TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY SO THEY CONTINUE THE GOOD JOB THEY ARE DOING
The Humane Society needs the money to continue to take care of the cats n dogs that are abondoned in this city
I firmly agree that the money generated from the billboard should benefit the Meriden Humane Society. It takes special people to run and care for animals in need - lets help take care of them now!
1)Billboards are a blight on our landscape. This is not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination. If we must have one, lets put some up by the city council members' homes and not near this residential neighborhood.
2) The Humane Society is not the only nonprofit in town and this would be favoritism to donate the income to them. They don't own the property the billboard would go on; the city does. It is best to put it in the general fund, if the decision is made to slap up such an eyesore.
I would like the money to go to the Humane Society. Those poor animals cannot speak for themselves as we do so have pity and give the money to help them to have a good life.
The Meriden Humane Society deserves more than a billboard. Let the council members volunteer over there for one week and see what these people do and see out of the kindness of their hearts. I don't think they should have to beg for money.
